The excellent work that King’s College School leads, with seven partner schools, is a great example of the strong partnerships that exist between many independent and state schools. It means students and teachers from both sectors learn from each other- and it is extremely beneficial all round.”
For those whose association with KCS is too recent to know Heather, I will just tell you she was the school’s equivalent of a national treasure: not a single person has ever had a bad word to say of her, and every person will have had their personal memories of times when Heather made a positive impact on their life.”
As a former pupil of a Merton State school I benefitted greatly as a participant in the Aspirations Project, a three-year programme of excursions, lectures, mentoring and master classes for pupils. The partnership gave me opportunities and experiences I wouldn't otherwise have had. Whether it be learning Ancient Greek or trips to the National Theatre, the projects opened my eyes to possibilities and gave me confidence to pursue my goals. As a first-generation university student I have now graduated with a First Class Honours degree and intend to pursue post-graduate medicine. I am very grateful and look back fondly at the memories I have of Heather and other leaders of the programme.
My daughter benefited greatly from the Wimbledon Independent-State Schools Partnership programme as it inspired her to do her best and feel like anything is possible with hard work and determination. It was lovely to see her look forward to the different activities offered on the project and come home with a sense of achievement and stories from the day. Thank you, I know this has made a huge difference to her life and choices she has made. "Heather's charity" will enable other children to similarly benefit from the programme and I wish the HMCK charity every success
